ITSector proudly sponsored the Portuguese team Robotic Builders in the RoboCupJunior Championship (EURCJ). The teenagers from Espinho won the national competition and went on to compete in Montesilvano, Italy.
The RoboCupJunior aims to promote robotics and artificial intelligence in the younger generations, specifically on the primary and secondary schools with the organization of competitions directed to students under the age of 19. There are three different leagues in the RoboCupJunior competition: Soccer, OnStage and Rescue. Each one has a specific aim, but in general, the goal is for the robot to overcome a sequence of obstacles.
This year there is a new event, the RoboCupJunior Championship (EURCJ), which is a European competition where the teams from all participating countries compete for the title. In this edition, the competition had 155 teams from 16 different countries. Portugal had 11 participating teams.
After the group stages and the semi-finals, Robotic Builders competed for third and fourth place of the EURCJ against another Portuguese team from the secondary school of Barcelinhos, and won. The mentor of the team, assistant teacher of Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, Manuel Silva said, “the participation of the team in the EURCJ was only possible thanks to the support of companies and institutions.”
Considering this, ITSector will continue promoting these type of initiatives, encouraging the interest around the tech and innovation areas among young people.
